We spent an amazing week in Quito learning about Public Health with other professionals from various charities in Ecuador. It was very very interesting to learn about the history of diseases, from smallpox to obesity, and think about how these can be studied and controlled. It was all in Spanish but we were undeterred!
We stayed in a little apartment belonging to HCJB which felt like a holiday cottage - somehow this made the whole week feel like a break despite all the hard work (photo on left).
I managed to visit the old people's home that my sister Hannah had helped build the foundations of 10 years before (photo on right). It was great to finally go there, and to see a bit more of Quito.
An unexpected highlight of the week was a music concert on Thursday night - with an oboe soloist and composers including Albinoni and Bartok - a high treat although very surreal to find it in Quito!
