Local festivities

Shell Day - officially 26th November - actually went on over the whole weekend. On Thursday it kicked off with street parades with lots of the schools taking part - costumes and dancing, and the crowned 'queen of Shell' smiling on all participants. Friday night was 'encuentro de danza' - very flamboyant costumes and different dances from all over South America. Saturday brought more parades but this time uniforms and bands, and in the afternoon there was a drag race along my street. Sunday afternoon I went along to a bullfight and saw a bit of excitement when someone didn't quite run away soon enough and got assisted over the fence by the bull. All in all an enjoyable few days!
The 'Reina de Shell' and her entourage;  dancers in the parade

My favourite parade group - the HIV virus, being relentlessly pursued by the doctor, the mayor, the vet, the teacher...; The 'Casa de Fé' - the orphanage next to my house; Quichua dancing in the evening (after this point I'm afraid I stopped taking my camera).
