It was a sad day when I realised that my Spanish will never be as good as my English. Oh how I love relocating the erroneous apostrophe, or searching for that perfect word which epitomises what I want to say… It’s been strange not being very talkative, and also been hard not being able to express complex ideas in Spanish – it somewhat limits my thinking! So in an attempt to be able to feel more like myself I went back to Quito to language school for a week. It was hard work - again - but I learned how to say things like “if I’d known it was going to rain I’d have taken my umbrella” and other such useful phrases. Only here, of course, you always know it’s going to rain.
Stephy came back from the USA this week, newly engaged, but sadly without the new shiny ring – probably wise not to subject it to the rigours of jungle travel. We had a great time catching up with Quito friends in the afternoons and evenings.
